ABSTRACT

@#AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of nerve growth factor(NGF)in the treatment of glaucoma by Meta-analysis.
METHODS: Comprehensive computer search database according to Cochrane systematic evaluation method. Randomized controlled trials of glaucoma after NGF treatment in the past 5a were included, the data extraction and Meta-analysis were performed by using Revman 5.3 statistical software.
RESULTS: A total of 6 cases randomized controlled trials were included, all of which were in Chinese, totally 513 cases. At the end of the treatment period, visual acuity was detected in 5 of the studies and 6 studies were performed with intraocular pressure, the difference among cases and normal were not statistically significant \〖MD=0.10,95%CI(-0.05,0.25),P=0.19; MD= -0.90, 95%CI (-1.92, 0.11), P=0.08\〗; 5 studies were performed on the visual field and 3 studies performed visual evoked potential(VEP), included P100 wave latency and P100 wave amplitude, the difference was statistically significant \〖MD= -2.49, 95%CI (-4.02, -0.96), P=0.001; MD= -12.13, 95%CI (-17.30, -6.97), P<0.001; MD=1.34, 95%CI (0.93, 1.74), P<0.001\〗.
CONCLUSION: NGF can improve the visual field of patients with glaucoma, and also can improve image visual evoked potential P100 wave latency and P100 wave amplitude. However, the effect of improving visual acuity and reducing intraocular pressure is not obvious. In a word, the NGF can ameliorate the optic neuropathy.

ABSTRACT

italic>Cichorium glandulosum has been used to treat non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Uyghur folk medicine. The mechanism of Cichorium glandulosum (CG)on type 2 diabetes mellitus accompanied with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (T2DM-NAFLD) remains unclear. The effect of CGextraction on T2DM-NAFLD was determined in animal experiments here (all the experiments here were approved by the Animal Care Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of the Medical College, Shihezi University). The mechanism of CG for treatment of T2DM-NAFLD was predicted and verified based on systems pharmacology. Based on the active compounds of CGon T2DM-NAFLD, T2DM and NAFLD-related targets, pathways and diseases were screened and predicted. Active compounds-targets, compounds-targets-pathways and compounds-targets-diseases were constructed and analyzed. The results of animal experiments showed that CGextractioncan reduce the levels of blood glucose and blood lipid in T2DM-NAFLD rats. In addition, it can improve the glucose tolerance and relieve liver injury. Total 29 active compounds and 198 targets were screened by systems pharmacology, of which 106 targets were involved in T2DM, 88 were involved in NAFLD, and 56 targets were common between T2DM and NAFLD, mainly related to insulin resistance and inflammation. These 198 targets include those in metabolic pathways, calcium pathway, PI3K/Akt pathway, cAMP pathway, and MAPK pathway. Our study confirmed that CG can be potential phytomedicine for treatment of T2DM-NAFLD. This work provides a reference for studying the treatment of multiple diseases using multiple-targets phytomedicine in systems pharmacology.

ABSTRACT

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a common gastrointestinal disease in which the etiology and pathogenesis are still unclear. Generally speaking, it is caused by environment, inheritance, and immune. The related factors include immune system, oxidative stress, microflora in gastrointestinal tract, NF-κB, NO, COX-2, LB4, and the correlation factors. There are many plants that are effective to inflammatory bowel disease in traditional Uygur medicine, such as Solanum nigrum, Quercus infectoria, and Punica granatum. For some of these plants, only one or two mechanisms of action have been found. Besides, some constituents of them are effective to anti-inflammatory bowel disease. This article reviewed the role of factors in IBD and the mechanism of anti-inflammatory bowel disease of traditional Uygur medicine.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of S 100B, AQP4, and CX43 on the function of the blood brain barrier in the hippocampus of diabetic rats with depression .Methods Rats were divided into the diabetic group [ two weeks of high-fat diet and injection of Streptozotocin (STZ, 38 mg/kg)], depression group(chronic unpredictable stress for 28 days) , the diabetes mellitus with depression group ( combined with the above two methods ) , and the control group .The behavior of rats was evaluated with open-field test and Morris test .The expressions of AQP 4 and CX43 in rat hippocampus blood-brain barrier were detected by immunocytochemistry .Serum S100B level was detected by ELISA.Results Compared with control group, the number of autonomic activity and the space exploration times were decreased, the escape latencies were significantly longer in the Morris water maze test(P<0.05 or P<0.01) of the diabetes group and depression group; Serum S100B levels increased significantly ( P<0.01);the expressions of AQP4 and CX43 were decreased(P<0.01).Compared with diabetic group, the number of auto-nomic activity and the space exploration times were decreased , the escape latencies were significantly longer in the Morris water maze test( P<0.05 or P<0.01) of the diabetes group and depression group;Serum S 100B lev-els increased significantly( P<0.05);the expressions of AQP4 and CX43 were decreased(P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusions S100B, AQP4 and CX43 expression disorder may be one of the mechanisms of diabetes mellitus complicated with depression.
